Shun Li Ni Xing — mit der Kraft fließen, gegen den Strom gehenShun Li Ni Xing — flow with the force, travel against the current

Neither blocking nor fleeing. Receiving the attacker’s force like a river — drifting with it and, in the same breath, turning the current back against him.

Send an attack into the river — see how it is taken up and reversed.
Der Fluss strömt — mit der Kraft und dagegen zurückThe river flows — with the force, and back against it
01 KampflogikCombat logic

Ein Prinzip, zwei Bewegungen — zugleichOne principle, two movements — at once

Shun Li Ni Xing is a paradoxical logic: you yield and take the lead in the same moment. Three aspects make it up.

Mit der KraftWith the force

Mit der Kraft gehenGoing with the force

Receiving the attack instead of blocking it — like water that gives way to a thrust and flows around it. No resistance for the opponent to lean on. The precondition is Fang Song (relaxation): only someone who is not cramped can feel the opponent’s force at all, and follow it.

Gegen den StromAgainst the current

Gegen den Strom gehenGoing against the current

In the same instant your own intent goes upstream — back into the opponent. His momentum and his reaction are used to destabilise him. Going along is never giving up: it is the preparation of the reversal.

GleichzeitigSimultaneously

Gleichzeitig, nicht nacheinanderSimultaneously, not in sequence

The trick is simultaneity. Not evade first and then counter — the two are a single movement. This is why the roughly 0.2-second delay of tense-first-then-act falls away: the counter-force is already there.

02 Block vs. FließenBlocking versus flowing

Blocken gegen FließenBlocking against flowing

Force against force is a contest the weaker party loses. Going along and redirecting avoids the contest altogether.

Der starre BlockThe rigid block

Kraft gegen KraftForce against force
  • Sets a hard wall against the thrust — the stronger party wins.
  • Gives the opponent a fixed point to brace against and reload from.
  • Slow: tense first, then act — the roughly 0.2-second gap.
  • Breaks or gives way when the angle changes suddenly.

Mitgehen & UmlenkenGoing along & redirecting

Shun Li Ni XingShun Li Ni Xing
  • Takes the force up and lets it run into nothing — nothing to brace against.
  • Transforms it: the opponent’s momentum is turned back against himself.
  • Immediate: the counter-force is permanently active, with no delay.
  • Adapts effortlessly to any change of direction (flexibility).
03 die Diagonalethe diagonal

„Solid is weak" — diagonal aufnehmen, frontal erwidern“Solid is weak” — receive on the diagonal, answer head-on

In “Quan Dao Zhong Shu” Wang Xiangzhai describes the same logic at the level of attack: a small turn makes the frontal diagonal — and the diagonal frontal again. Tap through the three steps.

— Wang Xiangzhai, „Quan Dao Zhong Shu“Original: „Frontal position will become diagonal after slight turn. You absorb attack diagonally and attack frontally."

Shun Li Ni Xing is not merely a fighting technique — it is laid down already in the standing posture and ripens through partner work into free fighting.

Im StandIn the posture

Mo Jin

Feeling out the six-sided counter-force is already a permanent going-along-and-acting-against. Here the principle is laid into the body, long before any opponent is there.

Schiebende HändePushing hands

Shou Zhong · Duo Zhong

In Tuishou it becomes palpable: keeping your own centre and at the same time taking the opponent’s — receiving and taking over in one.

FreikampfFree fighting

Sanshou

Frei angewandt: diagonal aufnehmen, frontal erwidern, ohne nachzudenken.

Applied freely: receive on the diagonal, answer head-on, without thinking. The solid point is attacked, the attack reversed — effortlessly, because relaxed.

Flow with the force, travel against the current — receiving and reversing are a single movement.
